Get to know Jenny
Her love for communications started at just five years old when she made her television speaking debut on Portland, Oregon's "Ramblin' Rod" morning cartoon show. Since then, she hasn't met a hot mic she doesn't like.
At seven, she aided in her first public outreach event by standing on her neighborhood street corner and declaring, "Hey kids, it's time for cake and ice cream," during her birthday party.
And in high school, she relished breaking news to fellow classmates as the editor of the school newspaper—back in the day when the paper was laid out with an X-acto knife and a light board.
A first-generation college student, Jenny received her bachelor's degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations from Western Washington University. Her first job out of college was as a public information specialist for the City of Palmdale, where she discovered her love of public service.
In 2005, she returned to school to earn a master's degree in public administration from California State University, Northridge.
Her career then took her to the cities of Vista and San Marcos, where she established those cities’ first-ever communication offices; then to the Port of San Diego where she served on the executive team as the director of marketing and communications.
In 2015, she would open the doors of JPW—a communications firm developed from the ground up to serve local governments strategically and creatively.
Since then, JPW has worked with more than 60 different government clients and earned more than 50 different awards on the local, statewide, national and international level. JPW was also recognized as one of the nation’s top local government service providers in 2019 with the Haverford Award from ELGL.
She is a past president of CAPIO and a recipient of their prestigious Paul B. Clark Award for lifetime achievement in the field of public communication.
Jenny resides in Carlsbad with her husband and two sons.
